I’m playing a show in PE for one night only!
Over the the last *gasp* couple of decades, I’ve operated as a writer, poet, singer and spoken-word performer and assembled a decent body of work. I’d like to present a selection of it when I return to my coastal stronghold of Port Elizabeth later this month. It will be an evening of adventures in words, titled “A Lyrical Journey”, incorporating stories, anecdotes, rhymes, raps, poems and acoustic songs at Art On Target in Port Elizabeth on Friday, 22 December.
The offerings will include tales from books like the Port Elizabeth stories Life’s A Beach, Greener Grass and Magnum Chic; songs with Jedi Rollers and The Near Misses; and poems by my alter ego Inspector Ras.
Featured performer on the night will be my old co-conspirator from Jedi Rollers Kendal Beadon, multi-instrumentalist virtuoso musician, on guitar, keyboards and programming.
Everyone who attends the one-night-only performance will receive a free, limited-edition copy of
one of my books, probably Comrade Baby, which is a kind of greatest hits.
I’ve been writing and performing music and spoken word since the Nineties. I live in Johannesburg now, but it all started in PE, performing at Four Winds Music Club, at art events and at shows with Jedi Rollers. I’m so looking forward to doing a full show incorporating my written anecdotes, poems, rhymes and songs for a Port Elizabeth audience.
The show starts at 8pm and entrance is R70 per person. Other books and CDs will also be available for purchase.
The show starts at 8pm.
Here’s a recent song of mine…
