We’re starting a band, Baby!

That is correct! And we play a blend of funk, rock and afro-pop, with a hint of the pure-pop stylings of the Beach Boys and The Crystals.

The name of the band is Superbruise, and it features Alistair Anderson, Tom Falkiner, Nick Wilson and your faithful correspondent, Hagen Engler, aka Inspector Ras. Our popular-culture avatars are respectively: brooding, handsome voice of doom Ian Curtis from Joy Division; bearded, compellingly dreamy Beach Boys mesomorph Dennis Wilson; unattainable multi-instrumentalist sex symbol from Muse Matt Bellamy, but tall; and rugged, SA-born outdoorsman and stamina exponent Mike Horn.

Our maiden gig will be this Friday, 28 June, at Amuse Cafe from 8pm. We are opening act for established Joburg rock royalty Jobergies and Spoonerman in a show billed perceptively as “Night of Dude-Puns”. Click the link for the Facebook details.

This is indeed our first show, so don’t get your hopes up unduly. But we can guarantee the Superbruise contribution will be “interesting”. Come on Friday and in years to come you will be able to diplomatically tell people, “Sure, they’re famous now, but I was at their first gig. They’ve come a long way.”

You will also be able to hang with us and talk kak.
