Hip-hop R&B dance craze the #NaeNae, as popularised in the debut single by Atlanta crew We Are Toonz – Drop That #NaeNae. The dance was performed by basketballers John Wall and Paul George after Wall had won a slam-dunk contest in February 2014.

And here the inspiration for the dance, the character Sheneneh Jenkins, from the Martin Lawrence TV sitcom Martin, which ran from 1992 to 1997. Sheneneh was played of course by Martin Lawrence in drag. She was the ghetto-girl owner of Sheneneh’s Sho’ Nuff Hair Salon, neighbour of Martin and nemesis of Martin’s lady Gina.
